Coming Home

Hudson was born on Friday, June 10 and we finally got to come home on Monday June 13. To say we were ready to be home as a family of 3 is an understatement!

We spent that morning waiting for my doctor to come by and officially say I could go home.

IMG_7980

John read to Hudson and I loved watching my 2 boys together!

IMG_7938

Around 11:00 (maybe...I really don't remember the exact time) I got in the shower and as I'm about to rinse off John comes in and says get out...Dr. Jaynes is here now and if you don't see him now it will another 3 hours.

I quickly rinse off and open the shower curtain and John is standing there with a bedsheet and wraps it around me! He was ready to go also and wanted me out there to see the doctor STAT!

Dr. Jaynes looked at my incision and said everything was healing well and he was happy with how I was moving around so I was released to go home!

We still had to wait for my discharge nurse to finish all of my paperwork.

Once all of the paperwork was finished we put Hudson in his carseat for the first time and headed down to the car.

IMG_8006

I remember saying how hot it was outside! It's amazing how you quickly forget the hot and humid South Texas weather when you've been inside for 4 days.

IMG_8019

The ride home was easy. Hudson slept the whole time and John has never been more careful behind the wheel.

IMG_8027

And getting home was amazing. We loved bringing Hudson in and introducing him to Oliver.

We showed Hudson his room. At first he wasn't a fan of his crib but once he got his paci he was a happy camper.

4th of July Weekend

4th of July was Hudson's first holiday! This weekend was actually a weekend of many firsts for him!

Friday we went to lunch at a new restaurant downtown. The food was amazing! John had a turkey burger which was hands down the best turkey burger I've ever tasted in my life. I had a salad which was very good, just not as good as his burger. We also shared an order of shoestring onions and rosemary parmesan fries. Amazing!

After lunch we had a couple of errands we needed to run. Hudson made his first trip to Walmart and his second or third trip to Target. He slept the whole time and did great!

Friday night some friends from church brought us a meal and we watched The Adjustment Bureau. Great movie!

Saturday John spent most of the day working in the front yard. We (and by we I mean John) are in the process of redoing our landscaping out front. He has pulled out all of the plants that were already there and this weekend he reshaped the beds.

John got a break though when some friends from Hamilton were passing through town. It was so great to visit with Shannan and her boys.

IMG_8325

Sunday we had lunch with friends after church. (Hudson and I did not go to church...we are waiting a few more weeks.) Then John had an event at church for the 4th. Hudson and I hung out at home then when John got home he did a little more work out in the front yard then we went up to the pool. Hudson and I did not get in but it was technically his first time at the pool. :)

On Monday (the 4th) John worked outside again. Then he took Hudson for the afternoon up to church so I could take a long uninterrupted nap. I slept for 2 1/2 hours and then got to take a shower and get ready. It was amazing!

We went over to our friends house for a cookout and then to watch the fireworks.

Our little family of 3 on Hudson's first holiday. Despite the 2 1/2 hour nap...we look tired!

3 Weeks Old!

Hudson...You are 3 weeks old today!

IMG_8317

I can't believe you are just a little over a week away from being 1 month old.

This has been a big week for us. It was our first week just the 3 of us. Your 1st week Lady (my mom) was here and your 2nd week Susu (John's mom) was here. We did great on our own and it was good to start figuring out how things will work with just the 2 of us while Daddy is at work.

IMG_8312

Monday you had your 2 week check up with Dr. Resendez. She was very happy with how you are doing. You weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces (up 11 ounces since we left the hospital) and 21 inches long (you grew 2 inches since you were born). She gave you and us an A+ which is just what these new parents needed!

IMG_8316

This week we also started tummy time. It's not your favorite but you aren't crying during it which is good. You are able to hold your head up and look from side to side.

We also put you on your activity mat for the first time this week. You loved all of the bright colors and the black and white designs. Daddy and Oliver even joined in for a little bit!

IMG_8314

We also put your mobile on your crib and just like your activity it has bright colors and black and white swirls that capture your attention. It's fun to watch you kick your legs when it is moving!

The highlight of the week though was yesterday (June 30) when your umbilical cord fell off. You were 20 days old and we were so excited that that nasty thing was gone. You had your first real bath that night and loved it. Well, you didn't scream like you did during your sponge baths so we assumed that meant you loved it. :)

IMG_8315

This week you also got some little allergy bumps on your face. They showed up before we went to the doctor so she was able to see them and said they were normal. You have such sensitive skin and she said they will come and go.

IMG_8313

Today you had your first trip to Walmart. We had a couple of boxes of Huggies diapers that we needed to exchange for Pampers. This week we learned the hard way that Pampers are a much better fit for you. You had 2 blowouts and leaked twice out of Huggies.

Today actually was a day of errands and you did great. We got to enjoy lunch downtown and you did perfect while we had a yummy meal. Then we went to a new shop downtown, Walmart and Target. You slept the whole time!

We are having so much fun with you Hudson!

Love,
Mommy

2 Weeks Old

Hudson...you are 2 weeks old!

(for those you worried...I'm not going to do weekly posts forever...just until he is 1 month old)

IMG_8240

This week has been interesting at night for sure. You wake up around 2:00 and are WIDE awake! It takes usually at least an hour and a half to get you back asleep.

IMG_8239

Tuesday you finally latched on the other side. You still have one that you prefer over the other, but we are working on that. I'm just thankful to have a break on that side. :)

IMG_8238

You are becoming more alert and are spending more time awake during the day. You still sleep a ton, but it's nice to see your beautiful eyes more!

IMG_8237

We have your newborn pictures tomorrow and I'm a little nervous about how you will do. You have not put yourself on a schedule yet and when you are hungry you let us all know but I also can't wait for your newborn photo shoot.

IMG_8236

Last night your Daddy sang just about the entire soundtrack to The Sound of Music to you and it worked like a charm to get you to calm down. You aren't usually fussy, but you've had a few bouts of it this week.

IMG_8235

Yesterday you met your Uncle Scott, Aunt Melanie and cousins Topher and Ellie. They all loved you and you made your first trip to Chick-fil-A. You slept the entire time which Mommy was very thankful for. She wasn't ready to feed you in public yet. (under the Hooter Hider of course)

IMG_8234

On Monday we took you back to the hospital so you could have your 2nd PKU test. I HATED holding you down when they did the heel prick. It was not fun and I did shed a few tears. I'm not looking forward to shots.

Monday you also went with Mommy and Daddy to Sears so we could buy a new refrigerator. We kept you covered up in the stroller and you just slept the whole time.

IMG_8233

Hudson, we love you so much and our lives are so much better now that you are here. You change every day and we are loving watching you grow and develop!

Love,
Mommy

Hospital Visitors

We tried to get pictures of everyone that came to visit us in the hospital but sometimes we forgot or it was too busy. But we had so many people who came to meet and love on Hudson. We are so blessed!

The Chavana's who are about to welcome their sweet baby girl, Landry!

Happy Father's Day

IMG_7820

I knew he would be an incredible daddy.

IMG_7980

But he is more amazing than I could have imagined.

IMG_8139

I have a new, stronger love for him.

IMG_8068

His love for Hudson is so sweet and I love watching the two of them together.

IMG_8059

He has been so supportive of me as I recover from the c-section and has probably changed more dirty diapers than me.

IMG_8056

I love you, John and I am so thankful that you are the Daddy to our precious son.

IMG_7938

The Lord has blessed Hudson and me with an amazing man!
