just because

During my husband's crazy stressful insane studying before his Comprehensive Oral Exams he sent me the most beautiful flowers at work.

Fresh flowers are one of my favorite things. Especially when they are given to me "just because."
They really were the prettiest flowers and were quite unique.

Just Because Flowers

I mean look at this flower. I think it looks like a yellow "Big Ball." (As kids, my brother, sister and I named Reunion Tower in Dallas "The Big Ball.")

Just Because Flowers

And look at the roses...gorgeous!

Just Because Flowers

It also had these tall stems with little fuzzies that reminded me of a lucky rabbit's foot.

I love him.

hello?

tap tap tap..is this thing on??

Wow..it has been way.to.long. since my last post! And I'm so terribly sorry for that. I guess life happened and I put this on the back burner.

But I've been in the kitchen.

And I promise to post tonight.

I did it!

I woke up at 5:00 this morning and went to the gym before work! I even braved the gym showers and got ready there. I'm proud of myself.

The only problem...I was so dadgum hot after my workout that it made it very difficult to blow dry my hair, flat iron it, and put on makeup. oh well..small price to pay.

Oh, and stay tuned for a recap from our weekend. It was incredible.

Let the celebration begin!

friday's coming..

Friday.

Studying

Friday at 9:30 am.

Studying

Friday at 9:30 am John will start his comprehensive oral exam.

Studying

Oh my goodness. My incredible husband has been studying his little tush off for months for this. He spends every spare moment studying and reading and and going through flash cards and going over old papers and listening to music history podcasts. The man is studying like I've never seen anyone study.

Studying

He converted our dining room into a study cave. Furniture out, butcher paper in. The pictures are off the walls and they are now covered with butcher paper. The butcher paper is covered with charts.

Studying

If you think about it, be praying for John this week. And pray Friday at 9:30 am.

Studying

If you can't tell in the picture, the bottom half of the wall-o-butcher paper is layered. There's more underneath!

over the years

I've been in the process of transferring all of my files/pictures/documents/etc. from my desktop to my laptop. It's a process I should have done a long time ago..I have been operating off of 2 computers for about a year and a half now. It's a pain and I think that is why I've put off transferring all of my stuff for so long. Ugh!

But...It's been fun going through old pictures. Pictures I had forgotten about. Pictures I love.

Here are a few oldies but goodies.

Lindsay & John
March 2003 - We had only been dating about a month here. This was at John's mom's surprise 50th in Austin.

Phi Kappa Chi Formal 2003
May 2003 - Phi Chi formal in Dallas.

Friends
October 2003 - I love this picture. These are our good friends, The Eppers, and they had been dating about a year and John and I about 8 months.

Homecoming 2003
November 2003 - Baylor Homecoming..acting silly. We did/do that a lot!

Note: I'm not sure where pictures from 2004 are...

The Oasis
March 2005 - The Oasis in Austin

Lindsay & John
Spring 2005 - In The Woodlands at Sean and Ashley's shower. I can't remember what month this was!

Honeymoon in NY
August 2005 - Honeymoon in NY. This was taken in Little Italy.

Married
August 6, 2005 - Our wedding day!

Wow..I just realized in that last picture I look like I have 1 leg! Someone is holding my train behind me and we were running back down the aisle. I've always loved this picture and just noticed that! Ha!

black heels to tractor wheels

I know several of you out there in Blogland love Pioneer Woman. I love her too.

Her recipes are so mouth watering and I have dared to try a few. {I use the word dare because one could easily gain at least 5 pounds with her recipes.}

What I have tried has been fabulous. I'm sure everything she makes is.

One of the reasons she cooks the way she does is because she is feeding 4 kids and a cowboy. Marlboro Man. I love that she has lovingly named her husband Marlboro Man.

A couple years ago she started writing the love story of her and Marlboro Man and it is like a book that I "can't put down."

Have you read her love stories about Marlboro Man? If you haven't you should start. Now.

Here, I'll even make it easier for you. Click on the picture to take you there!

then & now

Lauren tagged me to post then and now pictures. This is perfect timing b/c I'm in the process of transferring all of my files from my desktop to laptop so it has been fun going through old pictures. It's also been a beast transferring files, but that's another story. Stay tuned..I may post more old pictures!

Lindsay Growing Up

This is me in my grandparents backyard playing in the sprinklers..in my underwear..eating a red Popsicle.

Lindsay

And this is me now, tonight actually. A self-portrait. Which I normally do not do. I never do them actually. But I realized I do not have a recent picture of just me by myself. Oh, and I'm having a bad hair day. Just being real.

Things that have changed...
-I don't pose topless in pictures anymore.
-My hair doesn't have natural curl like that anymore.

Things that haven't changed...
-I still love Popsicles.
-Sometimes I think it would be amazing to play in the sprinklers.

Let's hear from..Natalie, Courtney, Beth, Jen and anyone else who feels like taking a stroll down memory lane!

He is Risen!

Happy Easter!

Easter Lilies

The day started off stormy so we had to cancel our sunrise service, but when we got out of church around noon the sun was shinning and it has turned out to be a beautiful day.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Easter celebrating our risen Lord!

Relay for Life

Relay for Life

The other weekend Baylor had it's 2nd annual Relay for Life. Our department got a team together and raised a TON of money and had a great time fighting against cancer. And I must add that we were the only department to have a team. All of the other teams were made up of students/student organizations. So go Student Activities! Keep in mind this was the last weekend of March when it was crazy windy, super cold and this event lasted from 7:00pm-7:00am..yes..all night.

Relay for Life

Coach Driscoll with a couple of the players.

Relay for Life

Proof of the wind.

Relay for Life

Most of our team dressed up as gothic/emo students and we had 1 school teacher.

Relay for Life

A normal picture.

Proof of the wind. This was about midnight.

Relay for Life

Here is a picture of me and Debbie about 3:00am. Debbie is a two time breast cancer survivor. Amazing!

Relay for Life

Pat Neff was lit up purple all night.

Like I said, it was a really great event despite the crazy winds and extreme cold. My goal was to last all night but I stayed until about 4:00am. It was just too cold and windy.

Wader

I’ve had a pet fish at work for about a year now. His name is Wader (think waiter but with a “d”). He is named after our old director who had the idea to get a fish in the first place.

Yesterday, I cleaned out his bowl like I always do. Added fresh water. Put in a couple drops of the water conditioner and waited the appropriate amount of time before I put Wader back in his bowl.

He didn’t like the fresh water.

Towards the end of the day yesterday he started to act weird. He was floating but after lots of tapping on the bowl he would swim really fast and then float again. We all thought he was about to die.

When I got to work this morning he was dead. Yesterday he was very bright blue and purple. Today he was sort of gray. Poor guy.

We just flushed him in the women’s restroom here in the SUB.

RIP Wader.

The ironic thing is last week we were laughing over this precious video.

38 days!

38 days until John graduates. Holy-cow-oh-my-goodness-I-can't-believe-it!

It's going to be weird when he graduates. Good weird. Great weird. Super exciting weird!

I've only been married to a student. It will be weird not being married to a student. Wait, back that up. I've only known John as a student. And he's an amazing student. I mean, the guy has been in school at Baylor for 8 YEARS! (4 undergrad, 4 for grad school - getting 2 Masters degrees)

He's such a champ and I'm so proud of him.

It's been a marathon of studying in our house/school/the library/the car the past several weeks and it will only continue.

I've gotta brag some more. He's not just in school. He is a full-time student, works 12+ hours at Baylor, and is a Minister of Music. To say he can multi-task is an understatement. I don't know how he does it but he does and he is amazing at everything he does and I could not be a more proud wife.

why being sick sucks!

Spring has sprung and all those beautiful blooming things are in fact..beautiful, but they are making me sick. Literally.

For the past few days I've been battling a sore throat and congestion and today it got the best of me so I'm home from work.

And here's what I've notice about why being home sick sucks {besides the obvious}:

1. It is very clear that I need to go grocery shopping because there is no quick food at home! Not even a can of soup! I do have stuff to cook a meal but who wants to cook when they are sick?
2. I'm home sick on a Friday. It's like being sick on a Saturday...remember Shel Silverstein's poem? I'll include it at the bottom.
3. It's a gorgeous day and it is the gorgeous outside spring-ness that got me here in the first place.

Sick
by Shel Silverstein

"I cannot go to school today,"
Said little Peggy Ann McKay.
"I have the measles and the mumps,
A gash, a rash and purple bumps.
My mouth is wet, my throat is dry,
I'm going blind in my right eye.
My tonsils are as big as rocks,
I've counted sixteen chicken pox
And there's one more--that's seventeen,
And don't you think my face looks green?
My leg is cut--my eyes are blue--
It might be instamatic flu.
I cough and sneeze and gasp and choke,
I'm sure that my left leg is broke--
My hip hurts when I move my chin,
My belly button's caving in,
My back is wrenched, my ankle's sprained,
My 'pendix pains each time it rains.
My nose is cold, my toes are numb.
I have a sliver in my thumb.
My neck is stiff, my voice is weak,
I hardly whisper when I speak.
My tongue is filling up my mouth,
I think my hair is falling out.
My elbow's bent, my spine ain't straight,
My temperature is one-o-eight.
My brain is shrunk, I cannot hear,
There is a hole inside my ear.
I have a hangnail, and my heart is--what?
What's that? What's that you say?
You say today is. . .Saturday?
G'bye, I'm going out to play!"

april fools april schmools

So today is April Fools Day. I really wish I had come up with some fabulous joke to pull on my husband or a co-worker, but I did not. It would have been fun. Oh well.

A couple nights ago I started reading Relearning Jesus by Matthew Paul Turner. God really seems to be using this book to say to me, "Hey Lindsay, wake up. Pay attention. I'm talking to you!" It's a great book and Matthew is a great writer and is able to grab your attention, make you laugh and talk about Jesus all at the same time.

Matthew has a blog also. I first found out about Matthew when he came to Baylor in February as part of the Lord, Save Us From Your Followers movement. And that’s where I got his book.

Anyway, yesterday on his blog he posted about Kristen Chenoweth’s new book, A Little Bit Wicked: Life, Love and Faith in Stages. Umm...I love Kristen Chenoweth and Wicked!

So I just pre-ordered my copy. The book comes out mid-April and I can’t wait to get mine.
