thanksgiving 2012

We had a wonderful 1st Thanksgiving as a family of 4! We decided not to travel this year since Emma is so little. John's mom and my mom both came down and we had a wonderful time.

This was my first time to make the turkey and it turned out perfect! I wish I had gotten a picture. It sure was pretty and delicious!

This felt a little like Hudson's first Thanksgiving also since last year he wasn't eating solids yet. This was his first year to experience the amazing food that comes along with this holiday!

I am beyond blessed. I have so much to be thankful for this year.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving from my precious turkeys!

It's pretty obvious what we are thankful for this year.

2 healthy, beautiful, and perfect babies.

We are thankful that he loves her so much.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Emma :: 1 month old

Dear Emma,

You are 1 month old! I can't believe you have already been a part of our family for a month. We have been a family of 4 for a month! You have fit in perfectly and we love having you here.

You are SUCH an easy baby. I'm not sure how I was so lucky to get 2 easy babies but I am so thankful! You took to nursing so much faster and easier than your brother. We haven't had a single nursing issue and for that I am extremely thankful. By this age your brother had had several bottles and formula but we haven't even tried a bottle with you yet. I know we need to soon. I'm nervous about how it will go since you won't even take a paci.

Nope, no paci for you! Just like your brother except he decided around 3 months he didn't like it anymore. We have tried every single paci on the market and you don't like any of them. That's ok though. Maybe you will find your fingers or a thumb like your brother. (and mom!)

You enjoy tummy time so much. You are already so strong and are working so hard at keeping your head up. You also get tired some days and just lay there and relax. Hudson loves to lay next to you to show you how to do things.

You eat every 2-3 hours during the day and 2-4 hours at night. Your longest stretch of sleep at night has only been 4 hours. And usually it takes about 2 hours to get you to go back to sleep. Not always that long but most of the time. I'm ok with it because I know it is just a season. I'm enjoying our nights because I know just how fast this time goes.

Just like Hudson, you have been in your crib from the first night we were home from the hospital. We swaddle you around 10 when we are ready for bed and I nurse you until you fall asleep. We had to transition from the Aden + Anais swaddle blankets to the Swaddle Me much sooner than we did with Hudson. You got so strong and were busting out!

We love you so much precious girl!

Love,
Mommy

new posts!

Lots of new posts!

puzzles!

This kid loves puzzles! And he's so good at them.

We only have 2 but I think a few more would be awesome Christmas presents since he's mastered these.

I love watching him concentrate hard at getting the pieces at just the right angle to put in place.

Emma's first bath

The day after Emma's cord fell off she got her first bath. She loved it.

I love this green frog towel.

Here's Hudson in the same green frog...

Emma meets the Chavanas

Our sweet friends, the Chavanas, moved to Houston a few months ago. We were so sad that they moved but excited about their new adventure. A few weeks ago they came in town to meet Emma!

Addison loved on Emma. Unfortunately, Hudson's buddy Landry wasn't feeling well so she stayed with her grandparents. We missed seeing her and Hudson play!

Emma meets Aunt Whit

My sister came to visit and meet Emma when she was 2 weeks old. She got to spend several days with us and we had the best time.

She got lots of Emma snuggles while she was here.

And played with Hudson a ton!

Nothing like playing with the water table in November. Only in Texas can you do that!

thanks for coming Aunt Whit! We had the best time!

Emma meets PJ

Unfortunately, my dad was out of town on business when Emma was born so he wasn't able to come down to meet her when we were in the hospital. So he came the following week to meet Miss Emma James. (She is named after him.)

We tried to get a picture of him with his grandkids but Hudson wouldn't have any part of it.

The book helped a little.

Even though the visit with PJ was fast, we loved having him here!

Hudson's first haircut!

On Friday we took Hudson to get his first haircut. He was starting to look a little like Donald Trump.

The back was very long and starting to curl up when you played outside and got sweaty.

He sat in John's lap and ate a sucker and did great the entire time. He never cried and barely squirmed.

We told her not to make it too short and she did a good job.

I wish Victoria had a kid's haircut place but Super Cuts did the job.

I was proud of myself...no tears! I was much more excited to have his locks trimmed!

Emma James :: 4 weeks old

Emma James...you are 4 weeks old!

I can't believe this is your last weekly post. You will be 1 month old on Tuesday! I can't believe it! We had your newborn photo session along with family pictures yesterday and I can't wait to get them back. You did perfectly!

You are still waking up every 3-ish hours at night. At this age your brother was going 5-6 hours but that's ok. I'm getting pretty used to functioning on little sleep.

You are more time awake but your most awake time is at night from about 10:00-midnight. Not ideal but it's nice to have some time with you when your brother is asleep.

We love you, precious girl and are so thankful for the last 4 weeks!
