Bed Rest

*Don't miss my baby shower recap below this post!*

A little update on me and Hudson. First of all...I'm 33 weeks today! I can't believe I am 4 weeks from being full term! Craziness!!!

So back to what happened this week...Tuesday we had just a regular appointment with my doctor.

Let me sidetrack here and say that we LOVE my doctor. When we moved here almost 2 years ago I asked several people who I should see and so many said, if you can get in with Dr. J you should...he's the best. So I call and am able to get in so easily. I had one appointment with him (my annual) about 6 months before I got pregnant so I really didn't know him too well, but still trusted him completely. He has been an amazing doctor and has been doing this for 40 years. He is unfortunately "retiring" 2 weeks after my due date! I say "retiring" because he and his wife are moving to be closer to grandkids and he will still work part time just delivering babies...his favorite part. I am so disappointed but I'm also happy for him.

Anyway, the appointment was normal. I was a little anxious about getting my blood pressure checked because I had gotten so swollen. My blood pressure has been perfect my whole pregnancy but the extra swelling had me nervous. My blood pressure was good but I had gained almost 9 pounds in 3 weeks. Ugh!

So when Dr. J came in he commented on the 9 pounds in 3 weeks and asked if anything was going on or if I had any questions. I mentioned the swelling and he looked at my feet, ankles and the legs he could see by pulling up my jeans and his exact words...

"Wow, that's impressive! In my 40 years of doing this I've never seen anything like that."

He then followed up by saying that I get to stay in the hospital for 24 hours. I shed a few tears mostly because I'm pregnant and hormonal but also a little nervous. He said he wasn't concerned because my blood pressure was good but the swelling and 9 pounds gained (of water retention) were enough for him to want to run some tests.

I was also upset because I knew John had a busy day (Tuesdays are so busy for him as he prepares for Wednesdays) and knew that 24 hours in the hospital meant he would be out of the office for 2 of his busiest days of the week. He was unbelievable and immediately told me that none of that mattered. I called my office and told them I wouldn't be coming back and John made the phone calls he needed to as we drove next door to the hospital.

We checked in and they put me in a triage room where we got to hear Hudson's heartbeat for about an hour nonstop. It was perfect and what I needed under the circumstances. I also had my first IV....talk about painful!!!

Then it was time to head to our room for the next (what we were hoping would just be) 23 more hours. And that's when I had my first ride in a wheelchair.

We got into our room and we had some friends stop by which was so nice. Then after I got my dinner John went home to pack a bag for us and to take Oliver to a friend's house.

That night we both slept horribly. I was in a hospital bed and was told I could only stay on my left side. Plus the nurse came in every 2 hours to check my vitals so I did not sleep well at all. John slept in a sorry excuse for a pull out bed thing.

We were woken up the next morning by about 6 people when my doctor came through to do rounds.

At that point we still didn't have too many answers. They were worried I might have hypertension but my blood pressure was perfect and the only symptom I had was swelling. None of the others. I also didn't have any protein in my urine.

So we sat around the rest of the day, bored and tired. I was on bed rest so I could only get out of bed to use the restroom. John was able to get some work done so that was good, but he was still restless.

After almost 30 hours in the hospital we were discharged. My doctor ordered me to bed rest at home on my left side (UGH) until Monday. We have an appointment with him then and I'm SO hoping he will say that I can go back to work. I've been on bed rest at home for less than 24 hours and I'd so much rather be at work.

Thankfully, I can still go to my baby shower tomorrow! My mom is coming in town today and we were going to do some fun things to get ready for Hudson but now she is planning on just hanging out with me since I have to stay on my left side. Not as fun but still so excited to see her!

The Woodlands Baby Shower

Almost 2 weeks ago a few family and friends hosted a baby shower for Hudson and me in The Woodlands. It was such a sweet shower and I loved that so many special people in my life were there to celebrate Hudson's arrival!

Internet Down

I really want to post about...

...my baby shower in The Woodlands last weekend
...Hudson's almost finished nursery
...all the things we have done around the house
...the front yard transformation that has started
...before and after pictures of our house since it is pretty much finished for now and considering we have lived here for almost 1 YEAR

BUT...our internet has been down and hopefully will be fixed tomorrow so stay tuned.

I have another baby shower coming up this weekend so I'd like to post about the previous one before this one happens.

We also have our last childbirth class this week. I can't believe that April is almost over! Soon I'll be able to say..."I'm having a baby NEXT month!" How crazy is that!?!?

Random Friday

. I have had the same thing to eat for breakfast everyday this entire pregnancy (with the exception of being out of town or not making it to the grocery store a couple of times). 3 egg whites (cooked like you would cook a fried egg, not scrambled), 1 whole wheat english muffin toasted with light cream cheese. And before I found out about the GD I had a glass of Simply Orange juice. It was the perfect blend of protein, dairy and carbs to keep me from feeling queasy at the beginning and I loved it so much I just kept it up. Plus it's healthy!

2. We have a Good Friday service at church tonight and I am so looking forward to it. This is probably my favorite service the whole year. It is quiet, intimate and so perfect in preparing for Easter.

3. Have I mentioned that I've had swollen feet since probably 24-25 weeks? It started that they would get swollen when I sat or stood for too long and I could prop them up and they would go back to normal. But about 3 weeks ago the swelling doesn't leave. It will go down slightly, but they are constantly swollen. And Wednesday I noticed that I am now swollen from just above my knees down to my toes. I'm hopeful that my twitter friends are right and that it will go away about a week after Hudson is born!

4. We rearranged Hudson's room again this week. There really aren't that many ways it can go...only 2 actually. We just moved it back to how we originally had it set up. Our glider and ottoman have been in for about 3 weeks now, we just need to find the time to get to Austin to pick it up from the store. And by we, I mean John. I'm done traveling.

5. This week has been so busy causing our house to be a mess! I'm planning on getting it all cleaned up today and then enjoying a less busy week next week. Especially since TAKS will be going on so there isn't much I can do at work so I'm hoping to get some of my baby books read.

6. A very very sweet woman at church has cooked us dinner TWICE this week. It has been such an amazing blessing. Not to mention, she cooked for us once last week also...3 times in less than 2 weeks. Unbelievable.

7. Next weekend is my big shower at church. I am so excited to get to celebrate Hudson with so many people who love him so much already. And my mom and John's mom are coming and possibly John's sister. My sister was going to come, but she is going to save her days off for when Hudson actually makes his appearance.

8. Speaking of Hudson's arrival...8 weeks from today! I am 32 weeks today and I can't believe he will be here in less than 2 months. We are so ready.

9. This week John and I started watching season 4 of Mad Men. We started watching the series through Netflix about a year ago and finished season 3 just after season 4 started last summer so we missed it. We are watching season 4 now and will be ready for season 5 this summer. We love this show!

10. I was supposed to have my breastfeeding class last night but the nurse didn't show up. Apparently there was an emergency AND she forgot about it. I really just think she forgot and they threw in the emergency thing to make it sound more okay. But honestly, I was sort of thankful because that meant I was able to go home and prop my getting bigger every day feet up.

Hudson in 3D!

Today we had our 3D/4D ultrasound. We had been SO excited about this for months.

This little boy is already looking SO much like his daddy!

Hudson definitely has John's lips and cheeks.

And it's always good to have some reassurance....

I also had my 30 week appointment today and everything is going perfectly. My doctor was very happy with my blood sugar testing I've been doing and said I only have to test twice a day now instead of 4 times a day. The "diet" I'm on now is controlling the GD which is a huge PRAISE! I'm measuring right on track.

Also...my doctor was named best OBGYN in Victoria which is awesome and makes me feel so great that he is my doctor!

Tonight we have our first childbirth class. I'm excited and also a little nervous.

We are already SO in love with this sweet boy and cannot wait until June.
