Snow Day 2.0

So, it's snowed twice here in 2 weeks! Well, technically it's snowed 3 times but the 2nd time it snowed it was only for a couple hours and nothing stuck. It started snowing on Wednesday night around 6:00 and by 7:30 it looked like this.

It snowed so hard and fast and the snowflakes were huge!

Emma was already in bed but Hudson got to enjoy it.

The snow kept hitting him in the eyes so he wasn't a fan of that. haha!

We were able to gather way more than enough snow really quickly to make snow ice cream! It was our first time making it and it was so yummy and easy. We just did 8 cups of snow mixed with 1 can sweetened condensed milk and a teaspoon vanilla. Hudson and John loved it!

The next morning it was beautiful! There was so much snow!! We had almost 8 inches.

The kids ate breakfast as soon as they woke up so we could get out there and play in it as soon as possible.

The forecast for yesterday was very warm (45 degrees) and sunny so we knew it would melt fast.

They were waiting on John to build a sled. He quickly went down to the basement and whipped one up. Literally.

The snow was so deep neither of them really loved it. It also didn't help that we don't have proper snow attire. I'll need to get some for next year!

Here's John's homemade sled!

We decided to move out to the front yard so we could have a little more room.

Emma got a turn. She liked it for about 30 seconds. Ha!

This was when she started to become angry. :)

We thought maybe having both of them on the sled together would be fun. Nope.

Hudson kept saying, "hug Emma!" She wanted no part of it.

It was a fun 7 minutes outside in the snow! We came inside and warmed up with The Lorax and some hot chocolate.

Although it was fun, I'm hoping that we won't be having Snow Day 3.0.

#woodslifeeveryday2014 week 6

A pretty boring and normal week but sometimes those are the best ones!

Day 36: after naps I took the kids to go get cake pops at Starbucks. I am so over this cold weather and ready for my kids to be able to play outside again. They deserved a little treat that day.

Day 37: I had a mountain of laundry to do. She was trying to be helpful.

Day 38: it's homemade pizza night again! Hudson LOVES helping and I love having him in the kitchen with me. After our pizza we watched the Opening Ceremonies.

Day 39: Y'all. Emma had been a beast the last 2 days. We had about 30 minutes of our happy Emma when we played outside. Then she was done and wanted inside. Then the beast came back. I hate HATE teething. Especially molars.

Day 40: We were doing whatever it took to get her to eat that day. She was miserable and it was heart breaking. Thankful she ate 1 1/2 containers of yogurt from the best daddy ever.

Day 41: they love Target thanks to "take pops" at Starbucks!

Day 42: she looked so big to me this day. Especially with her makeup brush, keys, and necklaces.

7 on 11?

So yesterday I had every intention of doing a 10 on 10 post since it's been so long since I'd done one. But I only took 7 pictures. Well, technically I took way more than 7 but that's because it's almost impossible to get a clear picture of my children these days. They're so fast and busy! So here's 7 pictures that I took on the 10th but I'm posting this on the 11th. :) This is also a pretty normal Monday for us so I decided to go ahead and document so I can remember later.

The last few days have been so miserable for Emma (and all of those around her). She has been teething and she clearly does not have a high pain tolerance. Yesterday she woke up feeling so much better. Still not 100% but a HUGE difference.

Hudson was enjoying a little applesauce after breakfast. And telling me all about what the Yo Gabba Gabba gang was doing.

I had a mountain of laundry I was working on yesterday morning. Mondays are my big laundry day even though I do loads throughout the week. A family of 4 goes through a lot of clothes!

Later in the morning we loaded up and went to Target. I needed a few things and Hudson was begging for a "take pop!" This makes everyone a little happier at Target.

On our way home we went by Zaxby's to grab lunch.

My little diva with her necklaces. She loves them!

On Monday nights we usually have our small group, but one of the couples couldn't make it so we went out to dinner with Eric and Brittany. It was a fun date night!

All about SIGHT WORDS!

After the video I posted of Hudson reading sight words a couple weeks ago, I've had several people ask me what apps, tools, etc. we use with Hudson for words, letters, and numbers. It helps that he loves the alphabet and counting. We read tons of books, sing the ABCs about a thousand times a day, count anything and everything, and we are constantly asking him what letter a word starts with. And more recently what a word ends with. He loves it so it makes it easy to work with him. We talk all day long and he's just a little sponge that soaks stuff up. So, aside from the normal (old school) things like reading, talking, singing, writing, and coloring...these are some of the tools we love that have worked so well.

Before we started working on sight words, he became obsessed with the alphabet. We would sing the ABCs all the time but he also loved the Leap Frog shows on Netflix. Amazing Alphabet, Number Land, Let's Go to School, Phonics Farm, Shapeville Park, and Magnificent Museum of Opposite Words are the ones he likes. He also has a Melissa & Doug alphabet puzzle that he did constantly.

Back in October he was learning the sounds of letters and would say the alphabet by the sounds each letter made. I was floored by this kid. So I added the Preschool Prep DVDs to his Christmas wish list.

This DVD series has 7 or 8 disks with everything from letters and sight words to numbers, shapes, and colors. These DVDs are SO BORING to adults but Hudson (and Emma too) both love them. They are very repetitive and Hudson has learned every sight word on the DVDs.

Hudson also has several iPad apps that have helped him learn words. Starfall Sight Words, Endless Alphabet, Starfall ABCs, Sight Words FREE, Dolch Words, and Little Speller are just a few that he loves. Just search in the App Store for sight words and so many come up. Most of them are free.

So there you go! Just some of the tools that have worked for us. I'm pretty amazed that my 2 1/2 year old can read 30+ words and spell about 10+ words.

Day 29: Oh no, we weren't going stir crazy at all during the crazy snow storm that hit the south last week.

Day 30: Hudson got to stay up late waiting on PJ to get here! He was so excited!

Day 31: having fun at the park with PJ! Emma wanted down so she could run.

Day 32: checking out all the TVs at Best Buy!

Day 33: House Divided. Emma was cheering for the Broncos and Hudson was cheering for the Seahawks.

Day 34: the last few days Hudson has woken up grumpy from his naps. When I go into his room smiling I hear, "No cheese mama!" Ha!

Day 35: Her eyes melt me.

Our weekend with PJ

Thursday morning John left for Michigan to attend a conference he goes to every year at Calvin College. Thursday night PJ (my dad) showed up and Hudson was so excited! He got to stay up past his bed time to see PJ!

PJ slept in Hudson's room so Hudson slept with me. I loved having this little guy in bed with me. He does SO WELL in a big bed. It makes me excited about his transition to a big boy bed soon.

Friday morning PJ made Hudson (Emma slept until 8:30!!!!!) some chocolate chip Mickey Mouse pancakes. Hudson got to put a few of the chocolate chips on.

Friday we ran a few errands before lunch and I thought Emma looked adorable. She's really getting into posing for picture sand smiling big when I get my camera (or phone) out.

After their naps on Friday we went to the park. After such a cold and snowy week it was so nice to have 60 degree weather. Hudson has been afraid of this slide since we moved here. Now he can't stay off of it!

And fearless Emma loved it too!

My two big kids climbing the stairs up the big slide. I can't believe they're both so big! Also...bed head doesn't matter at the park. ;)

Friday night, PJ babysat the minis so that Brittany and I could attend our friend Keri's 40th birthday party. It was an 80s themed party and she wore her prom dress from 1990! She looked amazing in it! Check out her rubik's cube cake!

We danced for almost 2 hours. Except for the couples slow songs...both of our hubbies were out of town!

Because of the snowtastrophe of 2014 I wasn't able to get out to find 80s garb for the party. You can't see it behind my rockin glasses but I've got on some bright blue eye shadow.

Sunday night we went to a Super Bowl party with the 9th and 10th graders at Eric and Brittany's house. We chose which team we would cheer for based off of what we had to wear. Hudson was a Seahawks fan and Emma was a Broncos fan.

Hudson is E's biggest fan. He followed him around all night and in a crowd of 50 parents and students he would shout, "E!!!!!" until he found his BFF.

Emma made her self at home in the middle of all the boys. Help me.

We had such a fun weekend with PJ and are so thankful that he got to see our new home! I hope everyone had a great weekend too!
