Emma's Endoscopy

Last Thursday was quite an adventure. After the super sampler at church we went to the playground to have a picnic with friends. At one point on the playground there were sensory tables with tiny plastic beads or pellets. Not sure what to call them but they're colorful and TINY. Like smaller than a pea. Anyway, I look over and Emma has her finger up her nose and immediately knew that she had put one up her nose. My friend went over to her with me and we looked up her nose and saw one. I tried to push it out from the top because I knew if I put my finger in her nose it would push it up more. It didn't work. I also tried plugging the other side and telling her to blow but she doesn't know how to blow out of her nose yet. We packed up quickly and went home so I could try to suction it out with the nasal aspirator and Nose Frieda. Neither worked and by the time we were home I couldn't see it anymore. I called the pediatrician to see what we should do and they refereed us to an ENT. So we spent nap time at the ENT that afternoon. FUN!

While I was on the phone with them I was throwing snacks and the iPad in my bag knowing that I would need everything to keep them entertained during nap time.

Hudson did perfect. He just sat and played on the iPad the entire time. Emma was an almost 2 year old and it took lots of snacks and distractions to keep her from running all over the place.

Unfortunately the ENT couldn't see anything up her nose and didn't want to force anything in the office. It took me and a nurse to hold her down so he could look up her nose with a flashlight. He didn't even try to use any tools. So we had to schedule a procedure for Friday morning so they could go up in her nose while she was sedated. 

She passed out on the way home and slept in her bed for another 2 hours. She was exhausted. Hudson got to skip his nap that day and loved his time with mommy!

I woke up at 4:20 Friday morning and got ready to take my baby girl to the hospital. We wished John and I could have gone together but that's one of the downsides to living in a city without family. Emma was great and played in the little kid chair and loved looking outside at all the cars. 

She loved her "pink dess!" 

They gave her some medicine to start making her sleepy and then took her back. I went back out to the waiting room and less than 10 minutes later the doctor came out to tell me it was over! So quick! Unfortunately (fortunately) the bead wasn't up there anymore. He said what probably happened is she swallowed it. 

I finally got to go get her and she was crying hysterically. She had such a hard time coming off the anesthesia. She cried hard the entire time I got her dressed, while walking to the car, the whole way home, and for about 20 minute after we got home. She was pretty out of it all day and didn't really get her energy fully back until Saturday.

We were so thankful that our first hospital experience with either of our kids was so minor. It's still scary as a parent to know that your child is under anesthesia but again...so thankful it was not a big deal.

Oh and the medical term for what she had done... "nasal endoscopy to remove a foreign object." hahaha!

First day of preschool 2014!

The kids had their first day of preschool on Tuesday! They were so excited despite what their faces show. Ha!

Hudson is in 3K this year and had a great first day. Like every day last year, he walked right in and didn't even look back. He already knew both of his teachers and several of the kids in his class. He loved it!

Emma did so great also! She is in 2K this year. She was originally going to be in the 18month class, but they moved some of the older 1s to the 2s class. I'm so excited for her to be in the 2s. I think she will thrive and do so well with older kids instead of being the oldest. She also knows both of her teachers and had a wonderful first day. No tears for anyone! :)

Day 239: One of Emma's favorite things is playing on our bed. She could do it for hours. Love her!

Day 240: Even though our afternoon was less than ideal, we had an AWESOME morning at the super sampler at church! Ballet, Kindermusik, and gymnastics followed by a picnic on the playground. So much fun!

Day 241: The boys are at the football game so Emma and I are having a girls night!

Day 242: These 2 just organized the playroom! Hudson was so proud!

Day 243: Busted! I usually hide when I eat my breakfast. Even after the 2 littles have eaten they still want to meat mine. And yes, haven't changed my chalkboard since the 4th.

Day 244: We had the best day at Camp Dawson! These 2 are EXHAUSTED and ready for their first day of preschool tomorrow! It's been the best summer.

Day 245: First day of 3K and 2K! This was the best we got this morning but they can't wait for school!

Labor Day 2014!

We spent Labor Day at Camp Dawson this year! It was a MUCH BETTER experience than our trip in May for Memorial Day. We didn't spend the night so that wasn't an issue but the kids have changed so much this summer and swimming with them was so much more fun.

In May Emma wasn't wearing a puddle jumper yet. On Monday, she was all over the place in her puddle jumper. It was so much more relaxing.

And Hudson wore his puddle jumper too. We had to pretty much force him to wear it because he now things he's all grown and doesn't need it anymore. He's doing great swimming but he doesn't know how to take a breath and keep going yet. So he gets tired quickly from holding his breath for so long and he wants to be independent so the puddle jumper was our best bet for a long day of swimming (and no naps)!

He was also able to go down the slide all day long on his own. He loved it.

We took Emma's pack n play but played it by ear with her. We knew Hudson would skip his nap and Emma ended up skipping hers too. They did great all day without naps but Emma CRASHED HARD the moment we got in the car. We were able to put the kids to bed early and we enjoyed Chinese takeout and Prison Break. :)

Such a fun Labor Day! It was great to get out of town just for the day. There were several other families out there and we had so much fun with all of our friends. 

Super Sampler!

Last week we went to church for a sampler of all the extracurricular activities that the preschool ministry has to offer. They got to try out ballet, gymnastics, and Kindermusik. Hudson and Emma had the best time!

Emma was a little too young for ballet but Hudson had fun walking around with an animal on his head. He really didn't follow the teacher too much when it came to actual ballet moves, but he loved all the random stuff. Ha!

Then we went to Kindermusik. Their favorite parts were the parachute and when they could run around the room with instruments. My wild kiddos!

Last was gymnastics...their favorite! Too bad all of the classes were already full. :( 

We ended our time with Hudson's first bloody nose. He fell off the beam and as soon as the bleeding stopped he was ready to play again. Love my tough boy!

After the sampler was over, we headed to the playground for a picnic with our friends. It was so fun but was cut short when Emma stuck a bead in her nose. More on that later. :)

weekend wrap-up

We had a great weekend! After the kids' naps on Friday we walked to the park. It was HOT but we had fun!

Emma was still lacking some energy after her procedure so she didn't really play much.

Hudson had a ball though!

That night Emma and I had a girls night while the guys went to the football game. We didn't think Emma had enough energy for the game.

Saturday was a lazy day. We went to Target in the afternoon to get some things to help us organize the playroom. We followed it up with dinner at Taziki's. 

While the guys organized, I cuddled this girl who was super sleepy.

They were so proud of their work!

Sunday we went to church and just had a normal afternoon. It was a great and relaxing weekend!
